Amsterdam July 28th to 30th 2017   (NOW FULL)

Smooth tarmac, cycle lanes everywhere and the most respectful motorists ever seen. And of course the obvious advantage, not an uphill in sight (the only slopes are bridges).

The Skatefresh tour hooks up with local skaters for their own Friday night skate starting at 8pm which tours the city and ends at about 10.30pm.

Amsterdam’s Friday night skate is comparable in speed to London’s Wednesday night skate which is why regular WNS is a pre-requisite if you want to do the Amsterdam FNS. The lovely surfaces will make increasing your speed easier.

Some new obstacles (tram lines) may need negotiating but skating in Amsterdam is generally easier than London.

Itinerary

Friday 28th July

We meet up in the evening before the Friday night street skate, at 7.30pm for the official start of the weekend tour. If you cannot get to Amsterdam till later on Friday night (or you aren’t yet skating WNS in London), you can join the Skatefresh trip on Saturday morning for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday 29th July

Meeting up at 10am, Saturday, we leave the city, skating 35km south along the River Amstel on a circular route back to the city….. Asha will spend some time with each skater working on improving their skating stride and speed technique as the smooth, flat roads create the perfect training ground. We also have lesson time built into the day where we can focus on different skills. We will stop at a restaurant for lunch (menu coming soon).

Sunday 30th July

A 9:30am start sees us exploring the city in more detail with a route around the central and outlying areas, including Vondelpark and Westerpark. The tour will finish by 3:30pm on Sunday (with a short lunch) so as to leave sufficient time for flight connections home.

Several opportunities arise for lesson spots where gaps in skills can be filled in and we will use the long, flat, smooth roads and tracks to really polish our speed skating technique and work on stamina.

Trip Fee: £120 (this includes all skate tours and tuition time).

You are responsible for your accomodation, travel, insurance, food and drinks while skating.

How to apply

You need to apply to come on a Skatefresh Trip as we need to ensure that all skaters participating are of adequate skating ability to safely navigate the weekend.

  • If you are from London we need you to be able to keep up with London’s Wednesday Night Skate speed.
  • If you are outside London or don’t have street skates near you then we will send you the questionnaire about your skating.
  • We may additionally ask you for a short video of yourself skating. Once approved, we will contact you, asking you to pay a deposit of £50 to secure your place on the trip.

Please note: Your place on the trip cannot be held until we receive your deposit. Places for this trip are limited and bookings will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

Please DO NOT make travel plans or book accommodation until you have been officially accepted onto the Trip.
