Asha was a competitive artistic quads figure skater, (after finding her first pair of skates in a skip), specialising in freestyle (jumps, spins and sequined dresses). She won the British Novice Championships at 13, came 4th in Junior European Championships at 16. She retired at 18 from competitive skating to pursue a university career, graduating from Edinburgh University with First Class honours.
After several years of ‘normal’ jobs she decided that the 9 – 5 wasn’t for her and started training as a Shiatsu therapist and in the meantime became qualified as an inline skating instructor 12 years ago. By the time the Shiatsu training was done, Skatefresh was 4 years old and going strong!
Since 2003 she has been training and certifying new instructors for the Instructor Certification Programme (ICP International) and is their UK National Director and Examiner. She was the first Level 3 instructor in the UK (2003) and one of a select few worldwide with Level 3 certification.
Asha is a general all rounder but her technical background makes her teaching style very direct and effective. Her knowledge covers basics, speed technique, slalom, StreetSkating, SkateDance and figure skating while also motivating children, young people and people with special needs and disabilities through skating. She describes her job as ‘an often intense immersement in people’s emotions throuh the physical’.
Increasingly, Asha is working more with children and young people in schools and local county council projects. Skating is a great way to motivate and activate young people, giving them more fun, purpose and building their self-esteem. However, adults learning to skate will also develop these essential personal skills.
In 2009 Asha appeared in the BBC series ‘SkateNation’ as a judge and coach. Read more in her Blog.

She regularly travels to work in other countries, sharing her knowledge and skills through the network of recognised skateschools (Australia, Brazil, Spain, Slovenia, Germany). Her new specialisation is SkateDance, particularly for new and improving skate dancers. She speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese.
Asha’s teaching approach and views on skating, fitness and health are informed by her Shiatsu training, knowledge of Chinese Medicine, a decade of Yoga practice and a fascination with personal advancement through achieving our goals and retaining fun, freedom and a feeling of ease in life.
What Asha’s students say about her:
“The lesson we did before the street skate was spot-on. you addressed many useful things. During the street skate, I felt completely in the zone. Thinking about it makes me smile and feel very proud. Thank you ever so much for being a great teacher.” (Simon 32)
“Thanks for the two lessons this weekend. A great help. Very much appreciated. You are a remarkably competent and an exceptionally talented teach.” (Daniel 55)
