After completing our complete beginners class the next Stage is ‘Improvers 1’ followed by ‘Improvers 2’, both 3 hour workshops held in Hyde Park every few weeks.
Improvers 1
The ‘Improvers 1’ class is not suitable for complete beginners but those with some basic skating ability, who have tried skating and stopping and find the stopping harder than the skating. If you can’t stop at all using your heel brake then our beginner class is more appropriate for you.
‘Improvers 1’ is perfect if you’ve done any of our beginner classes and want to move on, or if you’ve taught yourself but are now finding yourself stuck in a rut (not stopping effectively when you need to) and not improving as fast as you did when you first put skates on. If you have quads skates then it’s fine to attend the lesson.
The focus point of ‘Improvers 1’ is to increase your confidence by really learning (and mastering) how to stop properly. No hill, slope or high speed stopping situation should ever be a problem again once you have attended ‘Improvers 1’. You will also learn how to increase your speed and gain fitness from your skating.
2012 Level 1 class dates:
Imp1.1: Saturday 11th February, 11.00am – 2.00pm
Imp1.2: Saturday 17th March, 11.00am – 2.00pm
Imp1.3: Sunday 1st April, 1.00am – 2.00pm
Cost of ‘Improvers 1’ is £45 but if you are a returning Skatefresh client the class is £40.

Improvers 2
‘Improvers 2’ takes it all a step further and perfects the Parallel turns (in both directions) and really gets you working on your speed and general skating technique and efficiency. You will start to learn one legged gliding techniques and begin to even out your weak side.
Your skating will start to look more fluid, easy and relaxed. You will know how to ‘engage your stroke’, get fitness from your skates and control yourself at higher speeds. Going on a street skate will seem much more doable after this class as your confidence will have improved along with your actual skating. You will be ready for our intense and exciting Street Skating course or our Intermediate workshops.
2012 Level 2 dates:
Imp2.1: Saturday 17th March, 11.00am – 2.00pm
Imp2.2: Sunday 15th April, 11.00am – 2.00pm
Cost of ‘Improvers 2’ is £45 but if you are a returning Skatefresh client the class is £40.
In the event of rain on the day of class, we postpone, usually to the following weekend depending on instructor availability.
After completing Improvers 1 & Improvers 2 there are several skate lesson options:
- SkateDance - back to your Roller Disco days only now you’ll know what you’re doing. Beginner SkateDance classes available.
- 3 week SkateSchool for StreetSkating – prepare for Sunday’s Stroll mass street skate and solo urban skating one of Skatefresh’s best courses.
- 3 week SkateSchool for Intermediates – learn to stop on inline skates, rollerblades and quads using multiple methods, perfect your speed and turns and try out backwards skating.
You will need
1. Skates (recreational skates with a heel brake).
2. Padding (knee and wrist) – helmets are optional but recommended.
3. To be padded up and ready to skate by the beginning of the class time (this takes usually 10-15 minutes and is not part of the lesson).
“Not only are the instructors at Skatefresh great skaters, but they are great teachers too with an infectious enthusiasm. They quickly identify your mistakes and weak spots, and supply you with the drills and skills to
take your skating to the next level. I feel that not only did my skating improve dramatically over the duration of the course, but will continue to do so afterwards, if I get the practice in”. Rupert
“The beginners course was brilliant but this one really took it all a stage further. I don’t feel like a ‘Gumbie’ anymore and can spot other people’s mistakes easily. My confidence has grown as I’ve learned other ways to stop and I feel comfortable now with more speed which was always an issue before. I am well and truly addicted to skating and no longer go to the gym for my exercise. I also didn’t expect to get to know my skate mates so well and now we meet up and practice together .” Melinda
