Episode 6 – The Skate Stadium 2
The remaining skate teams now have a challenging time each week trying to dazzle the judges and the studio audience with a brand-new routine. Each week they face the possibility of being voted off. Each week the tension mounts and surprises lurk. Who skates on and who skates home?
The tight sporty Tshirt look continued for me along with further curly hair efforts.
I learned so much about women’s hair products and the amount of time it takes to curl hair (I am amazed anyone actually does this in real life). As we sat on set Camilla looked over and laughed at me and said “I don’t envy you in those tight tops, you really have to sit up straight so you don’t get double tummies”. I know she wasn’t insinuating I am fat but it’s true, I was focussing on my posture. She of course couldn’t be further away from having 2 tummies and yet had floaty dresses on which meant she was slouching between takes…
I was always impressed and surprised to hear what the previous week’s filming had been about. The crew was working full time filming teams practicing at home (travelling all over the country to do so) and special team based training sessions with sport professionals from many fields. This week it was Olympic gold medal-winner Darren Campbell who gave Essence some relay training to help their focus, trust and team-work, while judo expert Steve Leaks helped the Slap Shots sharpen up their karate skills for their martial art-themed routine.
The two teams with the lowest scores would again have to perform the Skate Showdown in front of the judges. Camilla Dallerup (Strictly Come Dancing reigning champion), Kevin Adams (fitness instructor from BBC One’s Fame Academy) and me Asha Kirkby (professional skating coach). We would again face the tough decision of deciding who would skate on and who would sadly have to skate home.
Camilla marks the teams on their rhythm, entertainment value and dance skills; Kevin on their energy, dedication and attitude; and me on their skating skills and technical ability. This didn’t always lead to agreement amongst the judges and we would continue talking about the teams and their performances behind the scenes (when we didn’t have to).
Added entertainment this week was provided by a display from professional BMX team Flatlanders and one of the teams made a surprising announcement…..
